Hanuri — Korean Language Learning for TOPIK Preparation

Effective date: July 26, 2026 · Last updated: July 26, 2026

1. Introduction

Hanuri ("we," "us," or "our") is a mobile application that helps you learn Korean and prepare for the TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) exam. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use Hanuri on iOS, Android, or other supported platforms.

By using Hanuri, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Guest mode: You can use many features without creating an account. When you use guest mode, most learning data stays on your device and is not synced to our cloud servers.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide

  • Account information — email address, display name, and password (if you sign up with email).
  • Profile & learning preferences — Korean level, learning goals, target exam, study reasons, daily study goal, theme preference, and language/locale settings.
  • User-generated content — Korean or English text you enter for translation, AI word analysis, conversation practice, or other learning features.
  • Voice input — when you use speech-to-text features, audio is processed to convert speech into text (see Device Permissions below).

2.2 Information collected automatically

  • Learning activity — search history, translation history, quiz scores, flashcard progress, and cached AI analysis results stored locally on your device.
  • Subscription status — whether you have an active Hanuri Pro subscription, product identifier, renewal status, and expiration date.
  • AI usage metadata — token counts and request metadata used to operate AI features and monitor usage (not used for advertising).
  • Device & app data — basic technical information needed to run the app, such as app version and platform type.

2.3 Information from third-party sign-in

If you sign in with Google, we receive information made available by that provider (such as your name, email address, and profile picture) as permitted by your Google account settings.

2.4 Payment information

Subscriptions and in-app purchases are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play (via RevenueCat). We do not collect or store your full payment card details. We receive subscription status and purchase identifiers needed to unlock Hanuri Pro features.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve Hanuri's learning features (vocabulary, grammar, TOPIK exams, flashcards, listening practice, and translation).
  • Power AI-assisted features such as word analysis, translation, and tutoring using third-party AI providers.
  • Create and manage your account and sync your profile across devices when you are signed in.
  • Process and validate Hanuri Pro subscriptions and restore purchases.
  • Personalize your experience based on your learning level, goals, and preferences.
  • Cache results locally to improve performance and reduce repeated AI requests.
  • Respond to support requests and communicate important service updates.
  • Protect against abuse, fraud, and security incidents.
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.

4. Third-Party Services

Hanuri relies on trusted third-party services to operate. These providers process data on our behalf according to their own privacy policies:

When you use AI features, the text you submit (such as Korean words, phrases, or sentences) is sent to our AI provider to generate a response. Please avoid submitting sensitive personal information in learning inputs.

5. Device Permissions

Hanuri may request the following permissions:

  • Internet access — required for account sign-in, cloud sync, AI features, and subscription validation.
  • Microphone — used only when you choose voice input or speech-to-text features (for example, Korean conversation practice). Audio is processed to produce text and is not stored on our servers unless you explicitly submit that text to a feature.

You can deny or revoke permissions in your device settings. Some features may not work without the required permissions.

6. Data Storage & Security

Learning data such as vocabulary progress, search history, translation history, and AI analysis cache is stored locally on your device using SQLite and on-device preferences.

When you sign in, profile and account-related data may be stored on Supabase servers with row-level security so you can only access your own data.

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention

  • Account data — retained while your account is active. You may request deletion (see Your Choices & Rights).
  • Local learning data — retained on your device until you clear app data, uninstall the app, or reset your device.
  • AI analysis cache — cached locally for up to 30 days to improve performance and reduce API usage.
  • Subscription records — retained as needed to manage billing, restore purchases, and comply with legal and tax requirements.

8. Your Choices & Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal information.
  • Export your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell personal information).

10. International Data Transfers

Hanuri is operated from various locations, and our service providers may process data in countries other than your own. When we transfer data internationally, we take steps designed to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, consistent with applicable law.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we may provide additional notice in the app or by other appropriate means. Continued use of Hanuri after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
